Filming of the program “Facts” ICTV in Odessa
05.07.2019
This summer, the ICTV was shooting its show “Facts” in Odessa. The series were dedicated to the cuisine of the Ukrainian south, locavorism and the first Ukrainian “Wine and Taste Road“. I was invited as a gastronomic expert. I told the audience about the local sheep cheese, the traditions of its production and its use in cooking. About the famous Odessa Mikado tomatoes, how difficult it is to grow them, and how to distinguish a real Mikado from other varieties on the market.
Filming began at the Frumushika family restaurant. Together with co-owner of the restaurant Mikhail Palariev, we made sheep cheese, mikado and homemade sunflower oil appetizer. For the recipe, we used sheep cheese from the Frumushika-Nova farm.
At the Kolonist winery, together with Alla Plachkova, we cooked wild snails that are harvested in the vineyards. We used one of the Kolonist wines for the dish. You can see the recipe here.
All the ingredients for our dishes were local, and grew within a radius of no more than 200 km from Odessa: after all, eating local products is healthy and natural.
