Riedel Wine Glass Tasting at “12 Persons”
14.07.2014
Sommelier of our school Konstantin Vidoborenko held a Riedel wine glass tasting for school students at the site of “12 Persons”, a high-quality tableware shop. In the classroom, our students often asked questions: does the shape of the glass really affect the perception of wine? Do different wines require glasses of different shapes? How does the quality and material of a glass affect the taste of wine? Why so often we don’t get the expected pleasure when we order a bottle of good wine in a restaurant? The reason is simple: excellent wine can be ruined by a wrong shaped glass. During the tasting, students learned how to avoid such mistakes. Konstantin prepared for tasting four different-shaped Riedel wine glasses and four wines: Sauvignon Blanc 2011 Forrest; Chardonnay Reserva 2012 Castello di Molina San Pedro; Cabernet Sauvignon 2012 Bicicleta Cono Sur and Pinot Noir 2012 Bicicleta Cono Sur. Students tasted each of the wines from different glasses. In one glass, the drink fully revealed its bouquet and aroma, in another, unexpected notes appeared, completely changing the perception of wine. One of the new knowledges that students received during the tasting is how to decant wines and how to significantly speed up the process of saturation of wine with oxygen. And the best Riedel wine glasses in the world can be found in “12 Persons” stores, where they not only sell goods, but also give new knowledge and delicious emotions.
