Pizza with avocado and parma ham

What made avocados so popular? Healthy lifestyle, vegetarianism / veganism and its versatility. It is used everywhere: drinks, desserts, burgers, ice cream, balls & salads, toast, butter, smoothies, and even alcoholic cocktails. And, of course, such a dish as pizza was not spared by the avocado. Although my recipe from our school is very old, even before the time of avocado mania, it may come in handy if you are a fan of the world’s most popular fruit.

  • Prep time: 10 minutes + 15 minutes’ making sauce
  • Cook time: 20 minutes
  • Makes: 1
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Course: pastry
  • Cookware: pizza stone, pizza cutter, pizza peel
  • Cuisine: Italian

Ingredients

For the tomato sauce:

  • 150 g canned peeled tomatoes
  • 1 small clove of garlic, peeled, finely chopped
  • ½ onion, peeled, chopped finely
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • dry oregano
  • ½ tsp sugar
  • salt

For the filling:

  • ½ avocado, peeled, chopped
  • 50 g parma ham, chopped
  • 30 g dorblu, or other soft blue cheese, broke into pieces
  • 4 tbsp tomato sauce
  • 4 large olives, finely chopped
  • ½ sun-dried tomatoes, finely chopped
  • ¼ bunch of parsley, finely chopped
  • olive oil

Cooking method

Step 1

For the sauce, put the frying pan on high heat and heat the olive oil. Add garlic and fry for 1 minute. Add onion and fry until translucent. Reduce heat to medium. Add tomatoes and oregano. Evaporate, stirring occasionally, for about 10 minutes. Add sugar and salt to taste, stir. The sauce can be used after cooling completely.

Step 2

Heat the oven to 220°C. Add olives and sun-dried tomatoes to the dough. Knead the dough. Sprinkle the work surface with flour. Roll out a circle of dough 6 mm thick and about 30 cm in diameter. The edges of the circle should be thicker than the centre. Cover a baking sheet with parchment paper, put the base on it and bake for 5 minutes.

Step 3

Get the base from the oven. Increase the temperature in the oven to 220°C. Stepping 2cm from the edge, smooth the tomato sauce over the base, scatter over avocado, ham, cheese. Put the pizza, still on its baking sheet, in the oven and bake for 15 minutes until crisp. Drizzle the pizza with olive oil and sprinkle with parsley.

My tips and tricks:

To ensure that not a slice is left from your pizza, the crust should be really crispy. This can be done by baking the pizza on a special pizza stone. It absorbs excess moisture, distributes heat equally and bakes the pizza evenly. The crust will be crispy and the filling will be juicy and tasty. Just do not forget to start baking only after the stone is heated in an oven at a high temperature.
